CIL to operationalise 21 new projects under 12th Plan

December 10: A total of 21 new and 36 expansion projects undertaken by Coal India Limited (CIL) are likely to start production during the current Five-Year Plan (12th Plan), an official release said.

The release did not provide details of the actual production that might accrue from these projects.

Among the subsidiaries of CIL, Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) is likely to contribute the most from new projects as seven such projects under CCL are under way in Jharkhand while Western Coalfields Limited is likely to contribute the most from 11 expanded projects.

CIL is likely to invest Rs 35,845.89 crore during the period, the release said.

Meanwhile, Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL), which plans to invest Rs 5276.02 crore during the 12th Plan, expects to open three underground (UG) and six opencast (OC) mines during this period.

Neyveli Lignite Corporation Ltd (NLC), that has already started work on increasing the capacity of its existing Mine I and IA to 15 million tons per annum (mtpa) from 13.5 mtpa, will invest Rs 2119.03 crore from internal resources for opening new mines - Devangudi, Hadla, Palana and Bithnok -  in Rajasthan.
