CMPDI eyes 800,000-metre drilling in 2014-15

February 26: The Central Mine Planning and Design Institute (CMPDI) expects to achieve total drilling of around 800,000 metres in the current financial year (2014-15), a senior official told ICMW.

“In the current year, we expect to end up with total drilling volumes of 800,000 metres, posting a growth of 14.7% year-on-year. This, however, will be below the target of 1,200,000 metres set for the year,” the official said.

In 2013-14, CMPDI had achieved an all-time high drilling of 697,000 metres, about 23.8% higher than 563,000 metres drilled in 2012-13.

Of the total drilling in 2014-15, 350,000 metres would come through departmental route, while another 450,000 metres would be achieved through outsourcing, the official said. “As for departmental drilling, work is going on as per plan. We have a target of 350,000 metres in departmental drilling and we should be able to achieve that.”

Last year (2013-14), 325,000 metres came through departmental route, while another 272,000 meter came through outsourcing.
