CMPDI mum on drilling in Mozambique’s Tete

14 Oct 2014

October 14: The Central Mine Planning and Design Institute (CMPDI) is maintaining silence over the status of exploration drilling in Coal India’s twin blocks in the Tete province of Mozambique.

When asked to comment on the third and final phase of drilling, which was expected to be completed soon, sources said that updates were not available with CMPDI.

They also declined to comment on the quality analysis of coal brought from the mines for testing in the labs of the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) and CMPDI.

Earlier, Coal India sources had said the final phase of exploration drilling was expected to be completed by October-November, 2014.

About the quality of coal, official sources had said in August: “(it is) very difficult to say anything very conclusive at this moment. Right now we are analysing and then will do co-relation. But in the next 2-3 months we will have greater details. If the project is viable only then we will go ahead with it.”
