China’s January met coke exports up sharply: GACC

February 12: Exports of metallurgical coke and semi-coke from China jumped sharply in January 2015, according to data released by the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) recently.

Exports of metallurgical coke and semi-coke during the month stood at 1,070,000 tons, up 45.1% as compared to 740,000 tons exported in the same month of 2014, the data revealed.

According to the data, the total value of exports in January stood at RMB 1118,850,000 or $179.02 million (exchange rate $1= 6.25 RMB). The average export price during the month stood at RMB 1,045.65 or $167.30 per ton.

The value of imports in January 2014 stood at RMB 1080,850,000 or RMB 1,460.61 per ton, according to the data.

According to China Coal Resource, imports in January were up 4.9% as compared to December 2014 imports and it was the sixth consecutive increase on both month-on-month and year-on-year basis, which was mainly due to the abolishment of the 40% export tariff from January 2013 to ease domestic oversupply.
