Dec steam coal imports via Kandla up 6% m-o-m

January 9: Steam coal imports through the port of Kandla stood at 1,128,285 tons in December 2014, up 6.4% from 1,060,373 tons imported in November, according to provisional data available with ICMW.

Imports of steam coal through the port during December 2013 stood at 288,186 tons. 

Imports of steam coal through the port during the first nine months (April-December) of FY’15 stood at 6,812,618 tons while the same stood at 4,960,486 tons during the same period last year.

Following is the monthly break-up of steam coal imports via Kandla Port in 2014-15 and 2013-14:

In December 2014, 25,000 tons came from Australia at a price range of Rs 6,196-Rs 6,454 ($99-$101) per ton, 851,829 tons came in from Indonesia at a price range of Rs 2,468-Rs 4,962 ($39-$79) per ton, 25,000 tons came from Mozambique at a price of Rs 4,538 ($71) per ton, 204,456 tons came from South Africa at a price range of Rs 4,520-Rs 5,965 ($72-$93) per ton while the rest of 22,000 tons came from United States at a price range of Rs 6,115-Rs 6,247 ($98) per ton.

However, during November 2014, 50,000 tons came from Australia at a price of Rs 5,450 ($88) per ton, 5,000 tons from Canada at a price of Rs 6,276 ($101) per ton, 619,925 tons from Indonesia at a price range of Rs 2,152-Rs 11,889 ($34-$192) per ton, 357,448 tons came from South Africa at a price range of Rs 4,470-Rs 5,863 ($72-$95) per ton whereas the balance 28,000 tons came from the US at a price range of Rs 6,057-Rs 6,125 ($97-$98) per ton.
