India’s imported coal stocks at 9 ports down w-o-w

March 23: India's imported coal stocks at nine ports – eight major and one private – fell for five consecutive weeks in the week ended March 20 mainly on the back of stock clearance at Mundra Port, according to data available with ICMW.

India’s imported coal stocks as on March 20 fell slightly to 7.896 million tons (mt) against a volume of 7.912 mt recorded as on March 13, according to provisional data available with ICMW.

After falling for four straight weeks, coal stocks at Paradip Port rose slightly on March 20. As on March 20, coal stocks at Paradip Port stood at 2.822 mt against a volume of 2.775 mt as on March 13. Of the total coal stocks at the port as on March 20, steam coal stocks were at 1.560 mt while coking coal’s share was at 1.262, registering a slight growth over 1.545 mt and 1.230 mt seen respectively as on March 13.

Imported coal stocks at Mundra Port fell considerably on March 20 to 0.520 mt, the lowest in several weeks, from 0.725 mt as on March 13. Of the total coal stocks at the port, steam coal stood at 0.410 mt as on March 20 against 0.608 mt as on March 13 while coking coal stood at 0.110 from 0.117 mt on March 13.

Imported coal inventories at Kolkata Port remained at 0.705 mt tons as on March 20 against a volume of 0.679 mt as on March. At Kolkata Port, non-coking coal stocks on March 20 stood at 0.506 mt, up from 0.460 mt as on March 13, while coking coal stocks at the port fell slightly to 0.200 mt as on March 20 from 0.219 as on March 13.

At Vizag Port, imported coal stocks rose slightly to 1.330 mt as on March 20 from 1.300 mt on March 13, mainly due to a slight increase in steam coal stocks to 0.830 from 0.800 mt during the said period. Coking coal stocks, however, remained unchanged at 0.500 mt during the period under review.
