India’s imported coal stocks at 9 ports up 6.30% w-o-w

October 20: India's imported coal stocks at nine ports – eight major and one private – increased 6.31% to 6.939 million tons (mt) (excluding Vizag) as on October 17 against a volume of 6.468 mt (excluding Vizag) as on October 10, according to provisional data available with ICMW.

The overall inventories of imported coal at Indian ports during the week ended October 17 increased as stocks rose at three major ports –New Mangalore, Paradip and Mormugao and one private port, Mundra, on a week-on week basis while at three other major ports, Kandla, V O Chidambaranar and Kolkata, stocks remained at their previous levels.

At one major port, Mumbai, inventories dropped on a week-on week basis.

During the week ended October 17, imported coal stocks at the port of Paradip increased nearly 7% to 2.542 mt against a volume of 2.365 mt as on October 10. Of the total coal stocks at the port recorded during the week, steam coal’s share was at 1.263 mt and that of coking coal stood at 1.279 mt against a volume of 1.040 mt and 1.325 respectively seen in the previous week (October3).

Imported coal stocks at Mundra Port rose nearly 13% as on October 17 to 0.988 mt compared to 0.871 mt as on October 10. During the week under review, stocks of imported steam coal at the port stood at 0.790 mt, up from 0.675 mt seen last week while coking coal stock of the port rose slightly to 0.198 mt against a volume of 0.196 mt seen last week. 

Inventories of imported coal at the port of Kolkata as on October 17 remained at the same level from that of the previous week (ended October 10).

The coal stock position at Vizag Port could not be obtained for the current week (October 17) as well because of the tropical cyclone that hit the port on October 12; the stock position at the port will be updated next week.
