Mundra Jan steam coal imports up 47% m-o-m

February 19: Steam coal imports through the port of Mundra rose 46.74% to 1,859,338 tons in January 2015 from 1,267,111 tons reported in December 2014, according to provisional data available with ICMW.

In January 2014, steam coal imports via the port stood at 1,832,711 tons.

Total imports of non-coking coal through Mundra Port during the first 10 months of 2014-15 stood at 19,500,559 tons against 16,515,084 tons reported during the same period of the previous financial year.

Following is the monthly break-up of non-coking coal imports via Mundra Port in 2014-15 and 2013-14 (in tons):

In January 2015, a volume of 43,000 tons came from Canada at a price of Rs 6,339 ($102) per ton, 1,436,494 tons came from Indonesia at a price range of Rs 2,545-Rs 5,909 ($40-$95) per ton, 195,121 tons came from South Africa at a price range of Rs 4,688-Rs 5,032 ($73-$79) per ton whereas the balance 184,723 tons came from the US at a price range of Rs 6,263-Rs 6,444 ($101-$102) per ton.

However, in December 2014, 127,781 tons came from Australia at a price of Rs 4,680 ($75) per ton, 1,060,330 tons from Indonesia at Rs 1,165-Rs 4,600 ($19-$72) per ton, 54,000 tons came from South Africa at Rs 4,592-Rs 4,600 ($73-$74) per ton while the balance 25,000 tons came in from the US at Rs 6,449 ($101) per ton.
