Paradip Port’s cargo handling up 18% y-o-y

October 17: Cargo handling by the port of Paradip during September 2014 increased by 18.31% to 6.01 million tons (mt) against a volume of 5.08 mt handled in the same month of 2013, a senior official from the port told ICMW.

On a month-on-month basis, however, the port’s cargo handling dropped compared to 6.11 mt in August.

Coal continued to be one of the major cargos handled at the port for the month of September.

On a cumulative basis, the port’s total cargo handling for the first half of the current fiscal (April-September of 2014-15) stood at 35.48 mt up nearly 4% from 34.12 mt in the same period of last year.

Of the total cargo handled by the port, coal handling during September stood at 3.55 mt up from 2.04 in September 2013 and 3.24 mt from August 2014.

Steam coal handling of the port during the month stood at 2.55 mt, up from 1.06 mt in September 2013 while coking coal imports at the port rose to 0.65 mt during the month under review compared to 0.44 mt in the same period of last year, the official added.

On a cumulative basis, the ports’ coal handling during April-September, 2014-15 increased nearly 12% to 17.95 mt against a volume of 16.01 mt in the same period of 2013-14, the official said.
