Paradip likely to suspend operations on Oct 12

09 Oct 2014

October 9: Paradip Port may suspend operations on October 12, the day the meteorological department has predicted landfall of the cyclonic storm, a port official told ICMW. “Right now our port operations are being carried out normally but a level-2 alert has been raised,” he added.

“On the day of the landfall of the cyclone we will suspend operations at the port,” the official said.

Last year, the port had suspended its operations for almost three days flowing Cyclone Phailin. This year, the meteorological department said the cyclonic storm Hudhud will make a landfall between Gopalpur in Odisha and Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. But the officials at Vizag Port said they have not received any official notice regarding the same till the afternoon of October 9.

The official said the port had not received any official notice by evening and accordingly we will raise the alarm level. “If the intensity level is high we might suspend port operations,” the official said.

Meanwhile, Krishnapatnam Port, which likely to be comparatively less impacted by the storm, has raised level-2 alarm, a port official said.
