Polish companies invited to partner Indian steel, mining firms

Government has invited Polish companies to join hands with their Indian counterparts in steel and mining sectors and share technical knowledge in areas, including developing and operating deep-coal mines.

"There is tremendous potential for Indo-Polish cooperation in the steel sector. Indian companies can collaborate with Polish organisations in the coal and steel business," an official statement, quoting Steel Minister Beni Prasad Verma, said.

Mr Verma is currently in Poland with an Indian delegation, which also includes Steel Secretary G Mohan Kumar, Joint Secretary in the Steel Ministry U P Singh and SAIL Chairman C S Verma.

The Steel Minister yesterday met Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Poland, Janusz Piechocinski at Warsaw.

Speaking about specific areas of cooperation between India and Poland during the meeting, Mr Verma said that Polish mining companies have the technical knowhow of developing and operating deep-coal mines.

Emphasising the need to develop coking coal mines in India with sustainable and environmentally friendly clean coal technologies, he said, "If Polish mining companies can share this knowledge with Indian counterparts, it will benefit both the countries".

Poland's Deputy Prime Minister Piechocinski appreciated India's economic growth and spoke about the harmonious partnership between the two countries, highlighting areas of cooperation in IT, agriculture and processed food product, training of Indian professionals in mining, the statement said.

He also said that Indian companies have made significant investments in Poland and mentioned that he would want more of these companies to make similar investments.
