Sept steam coal imports via New Mangalore up 24% m-o-m

October 15: Non-coking coal imports through New Mangalore Port during September 2014 rose 24.18% to 157,002 tons from 126,430 tons recorded in August, according to provisional data available with ICMW.

In September 2013, non-coking coal imports via the port stood at 280,928 tons.

Total imports of non-coking coal through New Mangalore Port in April-September, 2014-15 stood at 1,408,980 tons against 2,449,866 tons recorded in the same period of the previous financial year.

Following is the monthly break-up of non-coking coal imports via New Mangalore Port in 2014-15 and 2013-14 (in tons):

In September 2014, the entire quantity came in from South Africa at a price range of Rs 4,158-Rs 5,434 ($68-$88) per ton.

However, during August 2014, a volume of 80,430 tons came in from Australia at a price of Rs 5,626 ($92) per ton, 2,000 tons came from Mozambique at a price of Rs 4,583 ($74) per ton while the balance 44,000 tons came from South Africa at a price range of Rs 4,583-Rs 5,325 ($74-$87) per ton.
