Steam coal imports via Vizag up 4% in Oct m-o-m

November 11: Steam coal imports through the port of Vizag increased 3.93% to 992,674 tons in October 2014 against 955,106 tons in September, as per provisional information available with ICMW.

In October 2013, steam coal imports through Vizag Port stood several times lower at 266,499 tons.

Consequently, steam coal imports through the port for the first seven months of the current financial year (2014-15) stood at 5,776,430 tons as against 1,794,765 tons imported during the same period in 2013-14.

It may be noted that Vizag Port was affected by Cyclone Hudhud which had made a landfall in the southern India city of Vizag in October. Consequently, cargo handling at the port suffered.

Following is the monthly break-up of steam coal imports via Vizag Port in 2013-14 and 2014-15:

In October, 750,492 tons arrived from Indonesia in a price band of Rs 2,328 – Rs 4,858 ($37-79) per ton, 36,000 tons came in from Mozambique at a unit price of Rs 4,290 ($69) while the balance 65,620 tons arrived from South Africa in a band of Rs 4,141- Rs 4,136 ($66-67) per ton.

In September, 568,566 tons arrived from Indonesia in a band of Rs 2,323 – Rs 4,803 ($38-78) per ton, 109,586 tons from Chile at a unit price of Rs 3,612 ($59) per ton, 213,348 tons from South Africa in a range of Rs 4,290 – Rs 5,620 ($69-92) per ton and the balance 63,606 tons from Australia in a band of Rs 4,013 – Rs 4,777 (66-78) per ton.
