Three ports partially affected by cyclone Madi

11 Dec 2013

December 11: Normal operations at three major and minor ports on the eastern coast of India were partially affected on December 9 and 10 as they took precautionary measures to counter cyclone Madi, sources told ICMW.

Ennore Port suspended all inward movement of vessels till it detected an improvement in weather conditions as a precautionary measure while Ganagavaram port shifted two vessels on October 10, saying it would resume normal operations on improvement in the weather scenario.

At MARG Karaikal port, berthing of deep draft vessels has been affected since December 7, 2013 due to the cyclone. The port, however, expects things to return to normal, December 11 onwards.

Port operations, however, were normal at Vizag, Chennai, Kakinada and Krishnapatnam though the respective authorities raised a Level II storm alert.

There is, however, little chance of port operations being further affected as the latest report from the meteorological department indicate that cyclone Madi would weaken gradually.
