New User35 power plants non-productive in first 8 months

December 24: As many as 35 power generation units, with a combined capacity of 9,604.52 MW, remained non-productive or had no generation at all during the first eight months (April-November) of 2014-15, a power ministry official said.
The main reasons for remaining non-productive were non-availability of gas, lesser inflows of water, no schedule from the beneficiary states due to high cost of generation for liquid and DG fuel-based station and shutdown for renovation and modernisation (R&M) work, the official said.
In order to make the power plants productive round-the-year, the government is trying to ensure better availability of fuel to the sector and R&M of existing and hydro power plants, the official added.
