December 22: The Ministry of Power has electrified 51 villages in Uttar Pradesh in the third week of December under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojna.
Out of these electrified villages, as on April 1, 2015, 18,452 were un-electrified in the country. It has been decided to electrify all un-electrified villages by May 1, 2018.
Electrification work in 3,286 villages out of those mentioned above, has been completed so far. This was stated by Piyush Goyal, Minister of State for Power, Coal & New and Renewable Energy, in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha on December 21, 2015.
Around 1,849 villages have been sanctioned under off-grid distribution for electrification in 13 states, the minister added.
