Adani Power coal imports exceed February target

March 17: As in January, Adani Power’s coal imports exceeded the target in February too.

Adani Power (Tirora) received a total of 218,000 tons of imported steam coal in February 2015, which is 131% above the target of 167,000 tons set for the month. In January 2015, too Tirora received a total of 278,000 tons of imported steam coal in January 2015, which was much above the target of 167,000 tons set for the month, according to provisional data available with ICMW.

This private sector power utility’s coal imports during the first 11 months of 2014-15 stood at 21,36,000 tons, 117% higher from the target of 18,34,000 tons. The coal receipts in the same 11-month period in 2013-14 stood at 1,208,000 tons. So it is a 77% growth in receipts over the last one year.

The utility had a target to import 1 million tons of coal in 2013-14, which has been doubled to 2 mt for 2014-15.

Imports by the company’s other plant at Mundra, which is imported coal-based, stood at 1,138,000 tons in February against a target of 1,042,000 tons, while total imports between April and February, 2014-15 stood at 13,539,000 tons against the target of 11,458,000 tons.

The Mundra plant’s import target for 2014-15 is 12.5 million tons.
