Aug output from India’s captive blocks up 41.87% y-o-y

September 29: Coal production from the captive blocks in India rose 41.87% to 5.15 million tons (mt) in August 2014 compared to 3.63 mt recorded in the corresponding month of 2013, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
On a month-on-month basis, production from captive blocks during the month fell by 9.17% compared to 5.67 mt in July 2014, the data revealed.
During the first five months of 2014-15, coal production from the captive blocks stood at 27.16 mt, up 27.03% from 21.38 mt recorded in the same period of the last fiscal.
The target for the first five months was 28.44 mt, which means output from the captive blocks during the month for the first four months fell short by 4.50% or 1.28 mt.
The production target for the captive blocks for the month of August was 5.69 mt, same as in July and June.
The annual production target in 2014-15 for the captive blocks stands at 68.25 mt.
