March 19: Australian steam coal prices continued their downward journey on March 18 amidst reports of signing contracts with Japanese utilities at lower prices even as South African coal prices remained stable, market sources said.
A weak trend in the futures market and availability of coal from Colombia restricted demand for South African coal, they said.
Indonesian prices remained largely stable, but slight improvement was witnessed for high calorific value (5,900 Kcal/kg GAR) coal, which moved up by $0.25 per ton during the day.
