CERC asks RPower to submit Sasan UMPP details by Feb 28

February 24: The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC), on February 24, asked Reliance Power (RPower) to submit details by February 28 of its Sasan Ultra Mega Power Project (UMPP), where the company claims to be suffering due to the rupee depreciation.

Welcoming the decision, a company statement said, "Recognising that the unprecedented and unforeseen foreign exchange rate violation beyond the control of the company and beyond the normal expectations may need to be considered for qualifications and compensation by the procurers appropriately."

"The commission observed the rate quoted by the company is not only lowest among the supercritical power projects but also lower compared to the coast of hydropower generation. ...there may be a case for the procurers to share a part of the burden on account of depreciation of rupee," the statement added.
