26 Nov 2014

November 26: CESC Ltd, the flagship company of the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group, commissioned its 600-MW thermal power station at Haldia in West Bengal on November 26.

Set up at a cost of Rs 4,600 crore, the Haldia plant was executed by CESC's subsidiary, Haldia Energy Ltd, and dedicated by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Initially, the Haldia plant will operate at a capacity of 300 MW, while another 300 MW will be commissioned in February 2015. The coal linkage for the plant is provided by Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL).

With the commissioning of the new plant, the total installed capacity of CESC increased to about 1,825 MW from its five plants. CESC has four new plants in the pipeline with a combined planned capacity of 5,240 MW.
