October 17: Month-on-month despatches of coal to thermal power plants from mines of Coal India Ltd (CIL) in September rose 12.67% compared to the volumes despatched in August, according to provisional information provided by the company.
Despatches rose in September due to a spurt in demand from some of the major power plants, ICMW understands.
The coal miner despatched a total of 25.34 million tons (mt) of coal to the power sector in September compared to 22.49 mt in August, 24.25 mt in July, 26.4 mt in June, 29.74 mt in May and 28.99 mt in April.
Of the total despatches in September, 9.91 mt went to the power plants of NTPC compared to 8.71 mt in August. DVC had received 1.31 mt of coal in September from CIL during the month compared to 0.98 mt in August.
