August 8: Month-on-month despatches of coal to thermal power plants from mines of Coal India Ltd (CIL) in July fell 8.14% as compared to the volumes despatched in June, according to provisional information provided by the company.
Despatches fell in July due to fall in demand from some of the major power plants, ICMW understands.
The coal miner despatched a total of 24.25 million tons (mt) of coal to the power sector in July as compared to 26.4 mt in June, 29.74 mt in May, 28.99 mt in April, 32.86 mt in March and 30.64 mt in February 2014. The despatches stood at 31.78 mt in January, 32.01 mt in December, 28.91 mt in November, 27.08 mt in October, 26.55 mt in September and at 26.04 mt in August.
Of the total despatches in July, 9.59 mt went to the power plants of NTPC compared to 10.46 mt in June. DVC had received 1.24 mt of coal in July from CIL during the month compared to 1.49 mt in June.
