CIL’s underground production in FY’13 falls 1.60% y-o-y

28 Aug 2013

August 28: Production of coal from underground mines of Coal India Ltd (CIL) fell marginally in 2012-13 whereas production from opencast mines continued to rise, the company’s annual report said.

The company’s coal production from underground mines fell 1.60% to 37.776 million tons (mt) in 2012-13 from 38.39 mt in 2011-12, the report said.

The decline in underground production was attributed to a sharp fall in output at its three subsidiaries – Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL), Eastern Coalfields Ltd (ECL) and Bharat Coking Coal Ltd (BCCL).

However, production from opencast mines increased by 4.27% to 414.435 mt in 2012-13 from 397.25 mt in 2011-12, the report added.

Following are the detailed break-up of opencast and underground coal production from mines of CIL subsidiaries (in million tons):
