CIL to renew coal transport contract with ex-servicemen

November 26: Coal India Ltd (CIL) is set to renew its contract with the ex-servicemen (ESM) association of Defence personnel with a revision in rates for transportation of coal from mines to loading points, an official from the company told ICMW.

"The ESM has sought a revision in rates and a meeting would be held this week in Delhi with the Directorate General of Resettlement (DGR) to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with revised terms and conditions," the official said.

Asked what would be the likely percentage of increase in the rates, , the official said, "There is no fixed rate for transportation of coal from the mines to loading points. This is basically a derived rate, based on the distance and other factors and is mine-specific," the official added.

"The earlier MoUs signed with the DGR had no closing date, but the new one will have a tenure of five years from the date of approval," the CIL official said.
