Cement Corp to set up 6-MW solar plant in Tandur

Cement Corporation of India (CCI) would be setting up a 6-MW solar power plant at its Tandur plant in Andhra Pradesh in the next financial year, an official from the company told ICMW, adding that the company would set up solar units plant in other plants too.
The official said CCI has decided to set up 6-MW solar power plant at its Tandur cement factory in Andhra Pradesh. Tenders would be floated in April 2016. As per the tender, the interested party would have to build and operate the plant and CCI would provide 38 acres on lease for it. CCI would have power purchase agreement with the company.
The official further informed that necessary grants have been made available to CCI in this regard.
Explaining the logistics of setting up solar plants in Tandur, the official said, “This 29- year plant has 1 mt capacity in producing ordinary portland cement. As this plant has this large chunk of vacant land, the company has decided to initiate the solar project here. If everything goes smoothly, CCI would plan to install solar power plants in other two plants too.”
