October 16: The Indian cement sector consumed a total of 1.301 million tons (mt) of coal during July 2014, up 0.08% from 1.3 mt in June.
During July 2014, 0.839 mt was consumed during the process of cement-making while 0.462 mt was used in generation of captive power. On the other hand, during June 2014, 0.876 mt was consumed during the process of cement-making while 0.424 mt was used in generation of captive power.
The following table contains month-wise consumption details of coal (in mt) by the sector for cement-making and that used in captive power plants (in million tons) during April-July 2013-14 and 2014-15:
