September 17: The Indian cement sector consumed a total of 1.3 mt of coal during June 2014, down 25.42% from 1.743 mt in May.
During June 2014, 0.876 mt was consumed during the process of cement-making while 0.424 mt was used in generation of captive power. On the other hand, during May 2014, 1.116 mt was consumed during the process of cement-making while 0.627 mt was used in generation of captive power.
The following table contains month-wise consumption details of coal (in mt) by the sector for cement-making and that used in captive power plants (in million tons) during April-March 2013-14 and 2014-15:
