August 20: The Indian cement sector consumed a total of 1.743 mt of coal during May 2014, up 4.43% from 1.669 mt in April.
During May 2014, 1.116 mt was consumed during the process of cement-making while 0.627 mt was used in generation of captive power. On the other hand, in April 2014, 1.084 mt was consumed during the process of cement-making while 0.584 mt was used in generation of captive power.
The following table contains month-wise consumption details of coal (in mt) by the sector for cement-making and that used in captive power plants (in million tons) during April-March 2013-14 and 2014-15:
