December 18: The Indian cement sector consumed a total of 1.263 million tons (mt) of coal during September 2014, up 3.86% from 1.216 mt in August.
During September 2014, 0.861 mt was consumed during the process of cement-making while 0.402 mt was used in generation of captive power. On the other hand, during August 2014, 0.817 mt was consumed during the process of cement-making while 0.399 mt was used in generation of captive power.
The following table contains month-wise consumption details of coal (in mt) by the sector for cement-making and that used in captive power plants (in million tons) during April-September 2013-14 and 2014-15:
