Chennai gypsum imports drop 37% in Jan m-o-m

February 16: Gypsum imports through Chennai Port decreased 36.89% to 1,668 tons in January 2015 against a volume of 2,643 tons in December 2014, as per provisional information available with ICMW.

Imports of the material in January 2014 stood at nil.

Imports of gypsum through the port in the first 10 months of the current financial year stood at 159,801 tons as against 190,346 tons imported in the same period of previous fiscal (2013-14).

The following table contains the month-wise import figures of gypsum via Chennai Port during 2013-14 and 2014-15:

In January 2015, 887 tons arrived from Iran at a price range of Rs 3,827-Rs 5,221($61- $82) per ton, 513 tons arrived from the United Arab Emirates at a price range of Rs 9,277-Rs 18,657 ($145-$299) per ton, 96 tons arrived from China at a price range of Rs 23,713-Rs 24,980 ($372-$401) per ton, 103 tons from Oman at a unit price of Rs 8,846 ($142), 41 tons from Saudi Arabia at a unit price of Rs 8,900 ($143)  and the balance 29 tons arrived from the US at a price of Rs 31,509 – Rs 43,771 ($506- $703).

In December 200 tons arrived from China at a price range of Rs 17,824-Rs 25,101 ($42-$96) per ton, 13 tons arrived from Denmark at a price range of Rs 87,482-Rs 88,361 ($ 1,370-1,384) per ton, 1,049 tons arrived from Iran at a price range of Rs 3,926-Rs 5,130 ($ 61-$82) per ton, 308 ton arrived from Oman at a price range of Rs 8,887-Rs 9,066 ($142), 81 tons arrived from Pakistan at a unit price of Rs 10,449 ($167) per ton, 144 tons came from Thailand at a price range of Rs 9,502-Rs 12,703 ($152-$203 per ton, 96 tons arrived from United States at a price range of Rs 37,395-Rs39,421 ($586-$617) per ton, 752 tons arrived from Vietnam at a price range of Rs 11,417-Rs 11,630 ($ 56-$414) per ton.
