TPCC on Tuesday accused the state government of squandering public money by opting for sub-critical technology for the prestigious 1,080 megawatt Bhadradri thermal power station at Manuguru in Kothagudem district.

The TPCC also alleged that the government had adopted the 'outdated' technology only to benefit few people. TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy said the state government had put a burden of Rs 1,000 crore on the exchequer due to its `lack of vision and awareness' on thermal power technology. He said while super-critical thermal power plants are the norm all over the world, the state government preferred sub-critical technology that consumes more coal and causes high pollution. "The government had opted for subcritical technology knowing that it would not get environmental clearance from the NGT," he said.

Even if the state gets clearance, the power generated by the plant will be costlier than the power supplied by the Centre."Policies of the TRS government have put a huge burden on the state exchequer. Due to mishandling of finances, the state is now in debt trap. It now claims that it has no money to pay the salary of its employees," he said.
