February 17: Spot prices of South African steam coal continued to rise on February 16 amidst indications of higher number of enquiries from European countries even as demand from Asian countries remained subdued, market sources said.
Prices of other origin coal moved along expected lines and largely remained range-bound, they added.
A section of consumers in India are waiting for the Union Budget proposals for 2015-16 to be presented by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on February 28 before entering into fresh commitments for future deliveries, they said.
The Budget is tipped to be industry-friendly to spur economic growth that in turn will benefit core industries like coal, steel and power.
