ECJV acquires two new exploration licenses in Mongolia

16 Jul 2015

The Ekhgoviin Chuluu Joint Venture (ECJV) between Aspire Mining and the Noble Group has been granted two new exploration licenses, following the re-opening of the Cadestre Division of the Mineral Resource Authority of Mongolia to accept new applications.

The new licenses will form the Erdenbulag coal project with a further license areas under application called Khuren. The licence areas are focused on the South Gobi region of southern Mongolia in an area that already hosts a number of metallurgical coal mines and resources.

Rail development in the area is planned with rail from the huge Tavan Tolgoi coal project to be extended both south to China and east to connect with the Trans-Mongolian Railway.

Work to be conducted in this year will include surface mapping and sampling to enable drill hole identification.

“We are very pleased to have been able to acquire these prospective coking coal exploration licenses through the ECJV,” said David Paull, Managing Director of Aspire Mining. “The were identified after an exhaustive prioritization undertaken by both Noble and Aspire geologists. Should coking coal deposits be identified in these license areas there are a number of export existing and intended transport options to support the development of coking coal operations in the near term.”
