Essar Power delays imported coal procurement

October 3: Essar Power Limited, which had floated an enquiry to procure 300,000 tons of imported coal in the middle of September, is delaying finalisation of the deal as one unit of its Salaya plant in Gujarat has gone into maintenance shutdown, an industry source said.

"The company had recently finalised a deal to procure 150,000 tons of 5,500 Kcal/kg South African at about $75-76 per ton CFR Bedi port, but is not going ahead with the deal or going for the balance cargo because of the shutdown," the source said.

Meanwhile, the above material of Essar Power is yet to be loaded onto ship because of a huge congestion at the Richards Bay Coal Terminal, the source added.
