Govt yet to approve next revision in royalty rates

August 19: The government has not yet given permission to the Ministry of Mines to go ahead with the revision in royalty rates of minerals even as a study group constituted for the purpose has recommended for the same, an official in Ministry of Mines said.
Based on the recommendations given by the Study Group constituted for the purpose of recommending revision in rates of royalty, a proposal is under consideration to revise the rates of royalty for mineral, the official said.
The most recent Study Group Report for recommendations on the revision of royalty rates received by the government on June 28, 2013 is under examination by the Central Government, the official said.
“As approval of the Central Government is yet to be accorded, it is not possible to give the details of either the recommendations of the Study Group or the proposed revised rates of royalty,” the official added.
Section 9(3) of the MMDR Act, 1957 stipulates that the Central Government shall not enhance the rates of royalty more than once during any period of three years.
