Gypsum imports via Chennai up 6% in Dec m-o-m

January 28: Gypsum imports through Chennai Port increased 5.80% to 2,643 tons in December 2014 against a volume of 2,498 tons imported in November 2014, as per provisional information available with ICMW.

Imports of the material in December 2013 stood at 3,821 tons.

Imports of gypsum through the port in the first nine months of the current financial year stood at 158,132 tons as against 190,345 tons imported in the same period of previous fiscal (2013-14).

In December 200 tons arrived from China at a price range of Rs 17,824-Rs 25,101 ($42-$96) per ton, 13 tons arrived from Denmark at a price range of Rs 87,482-Rs 88,361 ($ 1,370-1,384) per ton, 1,049 tons arrived from Iran at a price range of Rs 3,926-Rs 5,130 ($ 61-$82) per ton, 308 ton arrived from Oman at a price range of Rs 8,887-Rs 9,066 ($142), 81 tons arrived from Pakistan at a unit price of Rs 10,449 ($167) per ton, 144 tons came from Thailand at a price range of Rs 9,502-Rs 12,703 ($152-$203 per ton, 96 tons arrived from United States at a price range of Rs 37,395-Rs39,421 ($586-$617) per ton, 752 tons arrived from Vietnam at a price range of Rs 11,417-Rs 11,630 ($ 56-$414) per ton.

In November, 1,334 tons arrived from Iran at a price range of Rs 4,355-Rs 7,272($70- $116) per ton, 940 tons arrived from Vietnam at a price band of Rs 11,374 - Rs 11,474 ($184-$185) per ton, 150 tons arrived from Thailand at a unit price of Rs 6,017 ($96), 40 tons arrived from Pakistan at a unit price of Rs 10,351 ($167), 20 tons arrived from the US at a unit price of Rs 36,888 ($589), 5 tons arrived from the United Arab Emirates at a price range of Rs 12,504-Rs 34,673- ($202-$560) per ton and balance 8 tons arrived from Denmark at a unit price of Rs 114,757 ($1,833- $1,854).
