18 Oct 2013

Eastern Railway has registered a 16.67% growth in freightloading to 5.27 million tonne during September 2013 as against 4.517 million tonne in the previous corresponding month, thus reporting its best-ever September performance.

This helped Eastern Railway record 15.84% higher earnings at Rs 353.97 crore from originating revenue loading during September 2013, as against Rs 305.56 crore earned during September 2012.

Out of the total freight loading during September 2013, coal itself amounted to 3.48 million tonne, registering a growth of 13.28%, as against 3.07 million tonne during September 2012. It resulted in increased revenue earnings of Rs 240.64 crore, which was 18.91% up compared to earnings in September 2012.

Apart from coal, Eastern Railway also loaded 1.78 million tonne of other goods in September 2013 as against 1.438 million tonne of other goods loaded during the same month last year registering a 23.92% growth. Earnings from other goods went up 9.83% to Rs 113.33 crore from originating revenue during September 2013, as against Rs103.19 crore during September 2012.

Between April-September 2013 Eastern Railway succeeded in loading 9.852 million tonne of revenue earning freight of various commodities, as against 9.311 million tonne in the previous corresponding period, thus registering a growth of 5.81%. As a result, Eastern Railway earned 4.4% higher revenues at Rs 717.84 crore, as against Rs 687.50 crore in same period last year. With the better offering of coal by both public and private sector coal companies and increased demand of various commodities as during September 2013, Eastern Railway said it expected better loading and earnings during the remaining period of this financial year
