Imported coal stocks at 9 ports edge up 4% w-o-w

January 19: India's imported coal stocks at nine ports – eight major and one private–stood at 8.112 million tons (mt) as on January 16 against a volume of 7.822 mt on January 9, according to provisional data available with ICMW.

The overall inventories of imported coal at Indian ports as on January 16 increased as coal stocks at four major ports -- Kolkata, Mumbai, Vizag and Paradip -- increased on a weekly basis.

As on January 16, coal stocks at the port of Paradip increased 3.11% to 2.980 mt against a volume of 2.899 mt as on January 9. Of the total coal stocks at the port recorded during the week, steam coal’s share was at 1.624 mt and coking coal’s share was at 1.356 mt against a volume of 1.667 mt and 1.232 mt respectively as on January 9.

Imported coal stocks at Mundra Port during the week ended January 16 dropped slightly to 1.045 mt as against 1.080 mt recorded as on January 9. During the week under review, the port’s steam coal stocks dropped slightly to 0.920 mt from the previous level of 0.950 mt on January 9. The port’s coking coal stocks too dropped slightly to 0.1250 mt on January 16 against 0.130 mt as on January 9. 

Imported coal stocks at Kolkata Port as on January 16 remained at 0.789 mt against the previous level of 0.607 mt as on January 9. On January 16, the port’s steam coal stocks stood at 0.426 mt against a volume of 0.285 mt as on January 9 while coking coal stocks of the port increased slightly to 0.363 mt against 0.322 mt as on January 9.

At Vizag imported coal stocks slightly increased to 1.200 mt as on January 16 against a volume of 1.150 mt as on January 9. Of the total coal stocks at the port as on January 16, steam coal increased slightly to 0.65 mt against a volume of 0.60 mt on January 9 while coking coal remained at its previous level of 0.550 mt on January 16.
