Imported coal stocks at 9 ports edge up w-o-w

January 12: India's imported coal stocks at nine ports – eight major and one private –stood at 7.822 million tons (mt) as on January 9 against a volume of 7.795 mt on January 2, according to provisional data available with ICMW.

The overall inventories of imported coal at Indian ports as on January 9 increased as coal stocks at three major ports -- Mumbai, Marmagoa and Vizag -- and the private port of Mundra increased on a weekly basis.

As on January 9, coal stocks at the port of Paradip increased 3.09% to 2.899 mt against a volume of 2.812 as on January 2. Of the total coal stocks at the port recorded during the week, steam coal’s share was at 1.667 mt and coking coal’s share was at 1.232 mt against a volume of 1.731 mt and 1.081 mt respectively as on January 2.

Imported coal stocks at Mundra Port during the week ended January 9 stood at 1.080 mt, slightly up from 1.065 mt recorded on January 2. During the week under review the port’s steam coal stocks remained at the previous level of 0.950 mt while the port’s coking coal stocks increased slightly to 0.130 mt on January 9 against 0.115 mt as on January 2. 

Imported coal stocks inventories at Kolkata Port as on January 9 remained at the previous level of 0.607 mt.

At Vizag, imported coal stocks increased slightly to 1.150 mt as on January 9 against a volume of 1.110 mt recorded on January 2. Of the total coal stocks at the port as on January 9, steam coal depleted to 0.60 mt against a volume of 0.800 mt on January 2 while coking coal stocks increased to 0.550 mt on January 9 against 0.300 mt as on January 2.
