India’s August coal production up 13.37 % y-o-y

September 29: India’s coal production in August 2014 stood at 43.51 million tons (mt), up 13.37% from 38.38 mt produced during the corresponding month of 2013, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
Production in August 2014 was also up by 2.76% from 42.34 mt recorded in July. However, coal production in August was down from the target of 44.54 mt for the month which means coal production for the month of August 2014 was 97.69% of the target, data revealed.
With this, India’s coal production during the first five months of 2014-15 stood at 220.31 mt, up 7.28% compared to 205.36 mt produced during the corresponding period of 2013-14.
Despite the increase on a year-on-year basis, the country’s coal production during the first five months of 2014-15 was lower from the target of 232.48 mt for the period.
For financial year 2014-15, India’s coal production target stands at 630.25 mt of which 507.00 mt is to be produced by Coal India, 55 mt by Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) and 68.25 mt by captive coal mines.
