India’s Dec pithead vendible stocks edge up y-o-y

January 27: India’s pithead vendible coal stocks rose marginally to 40.39 million tons (mt) as on the last day of December 2014 against 38.99 mt recorded on the last day of December 2013, according to provisional data available with ICMW.

On a month-on-month basis, India’s pithead vendible coal stocks increased 8.93% from 37.08 mt recorded as on the last day of November 2014.

The  increase could be attributed to higher pithead vendible stocks of Coal India Ltd (CIL) subsidiaries such as South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) where inventories rose to 7.82 mt as on December 31, 2014 as against 4.55 mt as on December 30, 2013 and 6.51 as on November 2014.

During the period under review, pithead vendible stocks at Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) stood at 11.07 mt from 9.75 mt on the same day a year ago while that of Central Coalfields Ltd (CCL) increased to 6.83 mt from 6.21 mt a year ago.

Pithead vendible coal stocks at captive coal mines stood at 1.38 mt on December 31, up from 0.848 mt on the same day a year ago. Stocks at Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) fell slightly to 2.505 mt on December 31, 2014 from 2.832 mt as on December, 2013.
