India’s Jan pithead vendible stocks edge up y-o-y

March 2: India’s pithead vendible coal stocks rose marginally to 43.36 million tons (mt) as on the last day of January 2015 against 42.92 mt recorded on the last day of January 2014, according to provisional data available with ICMW.

On a month-on-month basis, India’s pithead vendible coal stocks increased 7.33% from 40.39 mt recorded as on the last day of December 2014.

The  increase could be attributed to higher pithead vendible stocks of Coal India Ltd (CIL) subsidiaries such as South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) where inventories rose to 8.95 mt as on January 31, 2015 as against 4.93 mt as on January 31, 2015.

During the period under review, pithead vendible stocks at Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) stood at 2 mt from 1.83 mt on the same day a year ago while that of Bharat Coking Coal Ltd (BCCL) increased to 3.65 mt from 3.15 mt a year ago.

Pithead vendible coal stocks at captive coal mines stood at 1.24 mt on January 31, down from 1.70 mt on the same day a year ago. Stocks at Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) increased slightly to 3.17 mt on January 31, 2015 from 3.034 mt as on January 31, 2014.
