India’s imported coal stocks at 9 ports edge up w-o-w

August 18: India's imported coal stocks at nine ports – eight major and one private –increased slightly to 6.245 million tons (mt) as on August 15, 2014 against a volume of 6.217 mt on August 8, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
India’s imported coal stocks in the week ended August 8, revised to 6.245 mt from a provisional figure of 5.517 as imported coal stocks at Vizag Port was available for the week.
The overall inventories of imported coal at Indian ports during the week ended August 15 remained slightly up although coal stocks at most of the ports either remained flat or depleted on a week-on-week basis.
On a week-on-week basis, imported stocks at three major ports -- Kandla, Paradip and V O Chidambaranar -- increased while imported coal inventories at two major ports -- Kolkata and New Mangalore and one private port, Mundra, -- got depleted. Coal stocks at other three major ports -- Mumbai, Mormugao and Vizag -- remained flat on a week-on week basis.
During the week ended August 15, coal stocks at the port of Paradip increased by almost 3% to 1.789 mt against a volume of 1.746 mt recorded on August 8.
Of the total coal stocks at the port during the week, steam coal stocks stood at 0.708 mt, up from 0.701mt recorded on August 8 while coking coal stocks at the port increased to 1.081 mt against a volume of 1.045 mt in the week ended August 8.
At Mundra Port, imported coal stocks fell nearly 8% to 0.0.904 mt on August 15 against a volume of 0.987 mt as on August 8. Of the total coal stocks at the port on August 15, steam coal stocks stood at 0.762 mt, down from 0.834 mt on August 8 while coking coal stocks at the port in the current week stood at 0.142 mt, down from 0.153 mt recorded in the week before.
Inventories of imported coal at the port of Kolkata fell by 1.76% to 0.445 mt on August 15 against a volume of 0.453 mt recorded on August 8. On August 15, the port’s steam coal inventories stood at 0.324 mt, up from 0.310 mt on August 8, while coking coal stocks at the port during the current week fell to 0.121 mt against a volume of 0.143 mt recorded in the previous week.
