India’s imported coal stocks at 9 ports up 3% w-o-w

September 22: India's imported coal stocks at nine ports – eight major and one private –increased by 2.97% to 7.252 million tons (mt) as on September 19 against a volume of 7.043 mt as on September 12, according to provisional data available with ICMW.

The overall inventories of imported coal at Indian ports during the week ended September 19 increased slightly as inventories of imported coal rose in Kolkata and Vizag. At other ports, very little depletion of coal inventories was recorded on a week-on-week basis.

During the week ended September 19, imported coal stocks at the port of Paradip dropped very slightly to 2.201 mt from 2.203 as on September 12. Of the total coal stocks at the port during the week, steam coal stocks stood at 0.822 mt and coking coal stocks at 1.379 mt against a volume of 0.854 mt and 1.349 mt recorded respectively in the previous week.

At Mundra Port, imported coal stocks fell slightly to 0.922 mt on September 19 against 0.930 mt seen on September 12. During the week under review, stocks of imported steam coal at the port stood at 0.680 mt, same as that seen last week while coking coal stocks at the port stood at 0.242 mt against 0.250 mt recorded last week. 

Inventories of imported coal at the port of Kolkata as on September 19 increased almost 1.47% to 0.550 mt against a volume of 0.542 mt recorded on September 12. As on September 19, the port’s imported steam coal inventories stood at 0.314 mt against a volume of 0.280 mt in the previous week while coking coal stocks at the port during the current week stood at 0.237 mt against 0.262 mt on September 12.

Of the total imported coal stocks at Vizag Port as on September 19, which increased to 1 mt from 0.70 mt on September 12, steam coal stocks stood at 0.70 mt and coking coal at 0.30 mt.
