India’s imported coal stocks at 9 ports up 6.29% w-o-w

September 15: India's imported coal stocks at nine ports – eight major and one private –increased by 6.29% to 7.043 million tons (mt) as on September 12 against a volume of 6.626 mt on September 5, according to provisional data available with ICMW.

The overall inventories during the week ended September 12 increased as stocks increased at major ports such as Paradip, V O Chidambaranar and New Mangalore on a week-on-week basis.

During the week ended September 12, imported coal stocks at the port of Paradip rose nearly 13% to 2.203 mt against 1.943 mt as on September 5. Of the total coal stocks at the port during the week, steam coal stocks stood at 0.854 mt and coking coal stocks at 1.349 mt, up from 0.745 mt and 1.198 mt respectively from the levels in the previous week.

At Mundra Port, imported coal stocks fell by around 4% to 0.930 mt during the week under review against a volume of 0.969 mt in the previous week. As on September 12, stocks of imported steam coal at the port stood at 0.680 mt, down from 0.709 mt recorded on September 5 while imported coking coal stocks at the port fell slightly to 0.250 mt as on September 12 against a volume of 0.260 mt in the previous week.

Inventories of imported coal at the port of Kolkata fell almost 5% to 0.542 mt as on September 12 against 0.569 mt as on September 5. As on September 12, the port’s imported steam coal inventories stood at 0.280 mt against 0.287 mt on September 5 while coking coal inventories at the port stood at 0.262 mt against a volume of 0.282 mt recorded on September 5.
