India to pursue AUSC tech to reduce CO2 emission
29 Dec 2015
Having installed as many as 42 supercritical units with total capacity of 28,805 MW power generation during the past 5-6 years, the Government of India has approved a proposal to develop an Advanced Ultra Super Critical (AUSC) Technology R&D Project at a cost of Rs 1,554 crore for enhanced efficiency of thermal power generation.
The objective of the scheme is to achieve higher efficiency, reduce carbo-dioxide emissions and reduce coal consumption for coal-based power plants, a government official said.
The R&D project was commenced jointly by BHEL, NTPC and the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), the official said.
The development of AUSC will be in two phases, the official said.
In the first phase, R&D activities would be done over a duration of about 2.5 years from the date of approval, while in the second phase an 800-MW AUSC plant would be set up after completion of the first phase.
