Indian power cos’ Dec coal receipts up 2.34% m-o-m

January 15: Coal receipts by India’s power utilities stood at 46.83 million tons (mt) in December 2014, up 2.34% from 45.76 mt reported in November 2014, according to provisional data available with ICMW.

The total volume of coal received in December 2014 was also up 5.14% from 44.54 mt received in December 2013, the data revealed.

Of the total volume of coal received in December, 38.33 mt was domestic and 8.49 mt was imported whereas in November, 37.56 mt was domestic and 8.20 mt was imported, respectively.

Meanwhile, coal consumption by power utilities during December 2014 stood at 42.87 mt against 43.91 mt in December 2013.

During the first nine months (April-December) of 2014-15, total coal received by the power utilities stood at 393.67 mt whereas the figure stood at 360.09 mt during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.

On the other hand, coal receipts by India’s power utilities rose 7.21% during 2013-14 to 494.56 mt compared to 461.28 mt received during 2012-13 whereas consumption during 2013-14 was up 6.75% at 487.88 mt against 457.02 mt during the corresponding period of last year, data revealed.
