Indian power utilities Feb coal imports down m-o-m

Imports of steam coal by Indian power utilities in February were down marginally to 6.7 million tons (mt) compared to 6.8 mt imported in January, according to data available with ICMW.
The imports in February this year were, however, up nearly 10% compared to 6.1 mt imported in February 2015, the data revealed.
The total imports during the first 11 months of 2015-16 (April-February) stood at 75.3 mt, down nearly 10% compared to 83.4 mt during the same period of 2014-15.
Of the total imports during the first 11 months of 2015-16, 34.7 mt were imported by utilities that bring imported coal for blending purpose. The imports by these plants stood at 43.9 mt during the same period of 2014-15.
The imports by utilities that depend fully on imported coal stood at 40.7 mt during the 11 months of the current financial year, up from 39.5 mt imported during the same period of 2014-15.
