Indon firm to supply coal to Cebu plants

25 Nov 2013

AN INDONESIAN FIRM has bagged the contract to supply coal to the 109.3-megawatt (MW) Cebu thermal power facility, according to the Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corp. (PSALM).
In a notice posted on its Web site, PSALM announced that PT Baradinamika Mudasukses has been awarded the contract to supply and deliver 88,000 metric tons of imported steaming coal after it won the auction held last April.

The foreign company -- which engages in coal mining and is headquartered in Jakarta, Indonesia -- tendered an offer of P438.23 million, which is within the P468.71-million approved budget for the contract.

PSALM is mandated to procure fuel requirements of government-owned plants while awaiting their privatization.

The Cebu thermal power facility consists of the 52.5-MW Cebu 1 coal-fired power plant and 56.8-MW Cebu 2 plant. It is part of the 153.1-MW Naga power complex in Barangay Colon, Naga City. Besides the coal plants, the complex also includes the 43.8-MW Cebu diesel-fired facility which consists six 7.3-MW plants. The Naga complex is handled by SPC Power Corp. under an extended operation and maintenance service contract that will lapse in March next year.

SPC -- which is engaged in power distribution and generation businesses -- saw profit drop 24.3% to P802.29 million as of September from P1.06 billion in the same nine months last year as revenues fell 8.6% to P1.60 billion from P1.75 billion and cost of services increased by 6.7% to P1.12 billion from P1.05 billion. -- Claire-Ann Marie C.
